Reconstructed stone is a user-friendly material, but this does not mean it is “simple” or suitable for every surface
Reconstructed stone claddings were developed to allow the use of exposed finishes in modern constructions, where aesthetic quality might otherwise be sacrificed for economic or energy requirements. Furthermore, some architectural solutions prevent the use of natural materials like stone, which has static characteristics that are poorly performing and burdensome in terms of weight.
Over time, the practicality of reconstructed stone has favored its use as a decorative material. However, some inappropriate architectural interpretations can strip the material of its original function of emotional evocation, relegating it to a simple decorative covering for improbable surfaces.
The Made in Pietra team, while appreciating extreme architectural experiments, promotes the pursuit of harmonious results. Therefore, it proposes five rules as a “common sense handbook” to enhance claddings:
In nature, stone is horizontal
The pieces should be arranged in a horizontal position to give stability and naturalness to the project.
Stone enhances
When choosing the walls to be clad, it is important to give greater prominence to elements that protrude compared to those that recede, in order to make the stone architectural element the protagonist of the building.
Stone is the heart, not the bark
The cladding parts must be at the same level as the plaster to hide the glued installation and make the project more authentic.
Contrasts serve to highlight
Pairing an exposed cladding in natural tones with colors that are too bright or atypical devalues the beauty of the stone.
The “stone surface” creates design (but must always be respected)
Particular colors and finishes can coexist with the concept of stone, provided they are presented with clean lines and placed in specifically designed contexts. A modern color is not enough to change the classic characteristic of a material.
Installation and grouting techniques
The installation of a reconstructed stone cladding requires preparation in creating an appropriate pattern. It is also important to evaluate the choice of the suitable grout to use, which changes the final appearance of the project.
